On April 9, 1991, the Supreme Council adopted the Act of the Restoration of Georgia’s State Independence.

This historic decision was preceded by the referendum held on March 31, 1991, in which 99.08% of participants supported the restoration of Georgia’s independence based on the Independence Act of May 26, 1918.
